Four Seasons Hotel
200 International Drive, Baltimore | | 410-576-5800
Details: $255, two hours; $385, three hours

It’s fitting that Four Seasons offers a Harbour Salt Scrub and Warm Oil Massage; after all, the five-star hotel and spa is located just steps away from Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, which was the inspiration for the signature body treatment.

Developed by the folks at Espa, a luxury spa product line, the process starts with a full-body exfoliation using all-natural sea salts, rosemary and lavender followed by a shower (each treatment room has a private shower with heated towels).

The next step is a hot pore massage with a fitness oil that has West Indian bay leaves and clove buds. The combination helps warm muscle tissues. The massage is Balinese-style, with long, flowing strokes along the entire length of the body.

To top it off, an Asian-style scalp massage incorporates pressure points and friction to stimulate circulation.

For those who really want to indulge, the treatment can also be combined with a body wrap that comes in between the scrub and oil massage and extends the time from two hours to three. Choose between a mud wrap, which uses natural volcanic materials from around the world, and an algae wrap, using plants from the north coast of Brittany.

About Faces
1501 South Clinton Street, 3rd Floor, Canton; 410-675-0099
At the MAC, 100 W. Timonium Road, Timonium; 410-560-0080
The Shops at Kenilworth, Towson | | 410-828-6438
Details: $95; additional $40-45 for body polish, depending on location; 45-60 minutes for masque alone; about 60 minutes to 1 hour and 15 minutes for masque with body polish.

At About Faces, you can begin your Seaweed Body Masque with a body polish if you’d like. The polish, which is applied using a dry brush, helps the masque penetrate more easily into the skin. The dry brush also helps diminish cellulite and stimulate blood flow.

Afterward, a mineral sea salt scrub is applied to the body while you’re lying down and then is washed off.

Once you’ve dried off, it’s time for the masque. A thin layer of seaweed is applied to your entire body and stays on for about 15 to 20 minutes to give the skin time to absorb all the ingredients. Finally, the masque is rinsed off and a body cream is applied to hydrate the skin.

The seaweed is meant to detoxify and hydrate skin, and it’s full of ingredients that help rejuvenate skin, such as vitamins A, C and E.

Glow Salon
2603 Housley Road, Suite 213, Annapolis | | 410-571-6601
Details: $100, 60 minutes

The Phyto-marine Body Wrap at Glow Salon in Annapolis is a body contouring treatment. The process uses heated seaweed to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

First, the skin is exfoliated. Then the technicians do what they call “compressing” and then they wrap you in mud. While the mud soaks in, you’ll get a scalp massage and a mini-facial.

After rinsing off, a body-firming cream is applied to help decrease water and fat retention. The body treatment is also designed to help with stretch marks, bruises and circulation and it features Yon-ka products, a Parisian-based line specializing in aromatherapy and phyto-therapy products.

Visual Changes
8529 Baltimore National Pike, Ellicott City | | 410-461-2421
Details: $85, 60 minutes

The Caribbean Therapy Body Treatment at Visual Changes in Ellicott City is all about getting moisture back into the skin. Instead of showering off after your seaweed body treatment, steamed towels are used to remove the product.

The process begins with wet, hot towels wrapped around your body to soften your skin. Afterward, your skin is exfoliated with a body brush and sugar scrub.

Once the exfoliation is done, you’ll get wrapped up in a seaweed masque, your body wrapped in towels and aluminum to keep the warmth in. While the masque soaks in, you’ll be treated to a foot massage.

The spa uses the Caribbean Therapy product line, which incorporates mango, cocoa butter, amaryllis, lime and other fruit and floral scents for an experience that mimics a tropical getaway.
