The Chairman Suite

The Rittenhouse in downtown Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is a small, boutique hotel that prides itself on personalized service and was voted 2011 Travel and Leisure’s number one hotel in the “City of Brotherly Love.” Located within walking distance from major museums, cultural attractions, world-class shopping, and the business district, this destination has unique historic charm and residential ambience.

Opened in 1989, The Rittenhouse consists of 155 condominium residences and 98 hotel rooms. It was the first building in Philadelphia to offer hotel services to condominium residents. Throughout the years, the hotel has built a reputation for personalized service that includes the ability to print over 950 international newspapers, key cards with visiting guests’ country flags, and a personalized welcome letter from general manager, David Benton, written in the guest’s primary language.

“I think we have been able to go above and beyond to create an individualized experience for our guests. We cater to a lot of celebrities, and when Bruce Willis was filming here, he called us and asked us to convert his shower into a steam shower…and we did in just 24 hours. We never say ‘no,’ ” says Benton.

This urban sanctuary is situated near the center of the city where you will find hundreds of restaurants and shops. “I think Philadelphia is a very walkable, friendly city, with parks, the river, and so many attractions,” says Benton. Some of the most notable destinations include the Franklin Institute, a science museum with interactive activities, the Philadelphia Museum of Art with one of the finest French Impressionist collections in the country, and The Please Touch Museum geared toward children ages 2 to 6. You can also take a trolley tour around the city to historical districts and are free to get off and visit any and/or all the locations on the tour.

“Some other unique stopping points are the 2,000 murals on the sides of the buildings all over Philadelphia and there is also the Reading Terminal Market, which is over 100 years old and has 150 vendors, it’s great for families,” says Benton. The Rittenhouse also values families and provides tiny robes and slippers for young kids, children’s menus, and an 85-degree indoor swimming pool.

The hotel has a 10,000-square-foot spa for guests to enjoy a hair salon, fitness room, sundeck, steam shower, sauna, and more. Nestled in Rittenhouse Square—a beautiful, natural place with a reflecting pool and statues—The Rittenhouse Hotel is a great destination for couples and families alike.
