“CAPE MAY IS A VILLAGE AND A WALKING TOWN. THE STREETS ARE NARROW AND LINED WITH VICTORIAN BUILDINGS THAT ADD TO THE CHARM OF THE HISTORIC DOWNTOWN AREA.” Curtis Bashaw
These days when you hear the words, “Jersey Shore,” you don’t immediately equate them with luxury, family-friendly, or couples’ retreat. But that is exactly what you’ll find at Congress Hall in Cape May, New Jersey–the longest running seaside property in the United States. “Our hotel is in the center of the town and is definitely in a class all of its own. There are no other large-scale hotels in Cape May. It is a full-service property, you don’t need a car to enjoy your stay here,” says Curtis Bashaw, managing partner of Congress Hall and co-founder of Cape Resorts Group.
The hotel has a never-ending menu of amenities that keeps the whole family happy including: a luxurious spa, Camp Congress Hall for kids, private beach cabanas, and much more. Guests can enjoy waffles with the kids or lunch al fresco at The Blue Pig Tavern, sample some tasty appetizers in the Brown Room, or dance the evening away with live music at the Boiler Room nightclub.
Biking or walking around the small historic town, you will find an eclectic mix of shops, Cape May Point State Park, Cape May County Zoo, and the island’s biggest attraction–the Cape May lighthouse that dates back to 1859. “Cape May is a village and a walking town. The streets are narrow and lined with Victorian buildings that add to the charm of the historic downtown area,” describes Bashaw.
Cape May is open all year round. “It doesn’t roll up its sidewalk on Labor Day,” says Bashaw. So if you are looking for a quick weekend getaway or an alternative to the Maryland and Delaware beaches that is only hours away, this renovated 19th century gem just might be the perfect answer.
