Tips + Trends

Shirley's Affair with OscarEarlier this week, I came across some great news. No, I did not win a million dollars, nor did I win a lifetime supply of cupcakes. But I found out my favorite Baltimore restaurant for brunch, Miss Shirley’s Café, is opening a third location this fall.

The new location will be conveniently located adjacent to the Westin Hotel at 1 Park Place in Annapolis and will accommodate about 160 seats with a main dining room, private dining room, seated bar, and al fresco dining. The restaurant has two Baltimore locations in Roland Park and the Inner Harbor.

As an undergrad at Loyola College, my friends and I would often visit the flagship Miss Shirley’s location up the street from our dorms on Coldspring Lane. We usually had to wait a little while for a table (especially during Parents’ Weekend), but the impending meal and impeccable service were always well worth it.

Sweet Potato Fries & Fried Green TomatoesMy favorite dish is a toss-up between the Cinnamon Danish Pancakes and the Challah French Toast (I have a bit of a sweet tooth, what can I say?). I’m also a big fan of the Sweet Potato Fries and the Chesapeake Deviled Eggs, which combines two of my favorite foods: deviled eggs and jumbo lump Maryland crabmeat.

Miss Shirley’s is best known for its Southern-inspired breakfast, brunch, and lunch fare. Shirley’s Affair with Oscar, which consists of two 2-ounce beef filets, topped with asparagus, jumbo lump Maryland crabmeat and Hollandaise sauce on fried green tomatoes and savory grits with bacon, dusted with Old Bay, won Food Network Magazine’s Best Breakfast Dish in Maryland.

Now if only I could find a way to convince Miss Shirley’s to open a location closer to my home–that would be fabulous. For additional information, please visit MissShirleysCafe.com.
