Even though geography has never been my strongest subject, I’ve always been fascinated by globes–it’s the nerd in me. When most people think about globes, they probably picture the multicolored sphere from their school days–an educational classroom object.
But Wendy Gold, artist and designer of ImagineNations, sees things differently and she’s turning unwanted, vintage globes into whimsical pieces of art.
Every globe is handmade to order and decorated with recycled materials. The globes are then finished for a professional look and feel. There are 14 different designs available and customers can commission a custom globe.
My favorite design is the “Flutter By” globe (pictured), which features a vast array of colorful butterflies filling the shapes of the continents. It’s an idyllic representation of the world that speaks to my optimistic disposition.
The finished pieces from ImagineNations look great in a home office setting and also make thoughtful gifts. A portion of all sales is donated to charity. For more information about ImagineNations globes, please visit www.artonglobes.com.
