Tips from Deborah Dean of Gore Dean
• Take all your measurements with you to the store. You should know the exact size of your mattress, box spring, and of the area from the floor to the top of your mattress.
• Tell the salesperson exactly where you want your duvets and bedcovers to go. All the way to the floor? Just covering the top of the bed like a coverlet?
• A good salesperson will know how to fit your bed, but you have to tell him exactly what it is you want it to look like. I will very often give clients a pencil and paper and tell them to draw what they want.
• We try to talk people out of using too many pillows. Displays look one way, but that’s to sell every piece you can possibly buy: the square pillows, the round pillows, the shams. Your bed doesn’t have to look like that.
