2008 ASID Design Competition

Maryland ASID Chapter Residential Awards

If there is one thing interior design makes evident, it is that a space becomes a masterpiece with the right blend of creativity, materials, and design skill. The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) recognizes the most distinguished artists of space, whether they are large organizations, individual designers, or students. ChesapeakeHome is pleased to recognize this year’s winners of the Maryland ASID Chapter Residential Awards.

DIANE TAITT, GTM ARCHITECTS

A 14-story condominium building in Washington, DC saw the need to distinguish itself from a surfeit of similar residences in the area. The aspiration of the client was to fashion a public show room, which used similar materials as the condos, as well as to create an enticing feel for potential buyers. Starting with three trailers, GTM Architects was able to combine them into one space and bring to life the hip, urban aura envisioned by the clients while staying within budget.

HENRY P. JOHNSON, JOHNSON/BERMAN
1st Place Residential
johnsonberman.com or 410-752-2030

Henry P. Johnson of Johnson/Berman took on the task of designing his own award-winning abode. His aim was to give the appearance that this brand new home had been nestled comfortably in its environment for quite some time. The many gardens and outdoor surroundings inspired the home, which is filled with large windows and was deemed “The Field House.” The alliance of the indoors and outdoors seems most evident in the outdoor dining area surrounded by candlelit walls and an open night sky.
