Now in its 71st year, the Maryland House and Garden Pilgrimage (MHGP) will feature more than 60 historic locations throughout Maryland. Earnings from MHGP’s ticket sales will support a variety of preservation projects in every host community.

“Our 2008 tour program is filled with variety,” says Margaret Powell, Executive Director of MHGP, “great urban mansions, award-winning restored farm homes and log cabins, historic landmarks, modern design masterpieces, lavish and whimsical gardens, and homes in almost every architectural style found between the 17th and 21st centuries.”

Tours will take place in Talbot County (April 26), Kent County (May 3), Baltimore City (May 4), Calvert County (May 10), Washington County (May 17), and Baltimore County (May 18). Tour participants will experience exclusive visits to some of Maryland’s most impressive and historic properties. Stops on the tour include renowned architect Arthur Cotton Moore’s 4,000 square-foot stainless steel and glass home, a sculpture park and arts center featuring world-class outdoor sculptures from the Smithsonian, and a farmhouse that served as a hospital after the battle of Antietam.

The goal of MHGP, a non-profit organization, is to preserve and restore architecturally significant properties throughout Maryland. Proceeds from the pilgrimage will benefit several preservation and beautification projects, including the development of a landscaped pathway lined with native plants and benches in Baltimore County, a “sensory meditation garden” at a hospice house in Calvert County, the installation of lamps at a park in Kent County, general improvement and maintenance of the Mount Vernon parks and community in Baltimore City, the addition of endangered structures to the site of Washington County’s Rural Heritage Museum, and the support of various civic projects in Talbot County, among others.
